$8.5M Makeover Will Start Soon In Downtown St. James

A multi-million downtown revitalization project in St. James is expected to kick off this summer.

Smithtown Supervisor Edward Wehrheim announced that new water mains will be installed on Lake Avenue early in the summer. Town officials are also seeking bids for the reconstruction of the roadway from Patrick’s Way to Route 25.

Other work expected to be completed includes upgrades to sewer mains and downtown streets. In total, work is expected to cost approximately $8.5 million and may take months. According to reports, the project may also include the purchase of the Irish Viking, which would be repurposed.
